The Automotive Industry, Interactive Games & Advertising

Ferrari have announced an alliance with SCEE which means that finally you can drive a Ferrari in Gran Turismo! More importantly it underlines how seriously the automotive manufacturers are about leveraging an ever growing audience. With 45 million copies of the game sold its a bit of a no brainer that a marque like Ferrari is now involved.

Licensing has traditionally been a complex area Advergaming and Sponsorships is a great article which talks about all aspects of in-game advertisement and sponsorships in particular the section titled A Gray line: Licensing vs. Advertising.

Nissan North America and Microsoft recently announced expansion plans to a long term partnership which originally involved integrating the Xbox 360 platform into a concept car called the URGE.

The partnership now extends to Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions platforms such as; Windows live, MSN, live Search, Xbox and Windows mobile. Nissan are the primary sponsor of Forza 2 Motorsport for Xbox 360 and are co-sponsoring Open for Design program.

Ford announced earlier this year their plans for an advergame called Ford Bold Moves Street Racing". Fords advergame strategy carries a greater amount of risk than the product placement approach taken by Nissan and Ferrari and will be interesting to see how it all pans out. My money is on Nissan and Ferrari doing very well and Fords strategy falling flat. And its not only my personal opinion. Gamespot reviews arent very favourable with ratings of bad to poor for the various platforms (Xbox 360, PC etc) which bodes very poorly for Ford. To quote a review: When people complain about racing games because they are boring, Ford Bold Moves is exactly the kind of game they are talking about.

Risky indeed.

USB Devices, Ports and Channels

The USB ports are active if the operating system is Windows XP. Go into bios and make sure the USB ports are all enabled. When the laptop is running in the dock, the USB ports are not fuctional. Note: High-powered USB ports are generally the ones that reside on your computer or on a powered USB hub.

USB

USB ports come in pairs, two ports per channel. USB has a convenient plug and play feature. USB devices don't always need to be plugged into the same port they were initially and properly set up on. USB is an external bus standard designed for enhancing plug and play capabilities for attaching peripherals to your PC. USB can connect peripherals such as mousedevices, keyboards, PDAs, gamepads and joysticks, scanners, digital cameras, printers, external storage, networking components, etc.

Ports

You should check to make sure that you USB ports are enabled in the BIOS. If you're looking to save a penny, try buying a pci-card providing usb ports. If you can't get the USB ports working by clearing the CMOS, try all of the ports, you may just have one bad channel. Even try the ports on your front panel (if you have them), just to be sure. You can look in device manager and the bios setup and see if the ports have been disabled or are missing a driver.

Devices

For low-speed and full-speed devices, the USB register set complies with the Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) specification. For high-speed devices, the USB register set complies with the Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) specification. Compatible USB devices should support the USB-suspend mode defined in the USB specification. Class drivers are software components that are able to communicate with many USB devices of a particular kind. USB devices can also provide a remote wakeup function for the computer.

Software

If no standard USB keyboard or USB mouse works at all, there is no software fix. If it won't let you into BIOS it's not software problem, it's a hardware problem. Alternatively, your computer's original manufacturer's set-up CD(s) may provide DOS drivers, because sometimes they are included with a fairly recent computer in order to enable the use of a USB keyboard or mouse with the DOS-level system-recovery software. There is no need to control user uploading and downloading activity through USB devicesThere is no control of users access to USB devices in our network yetUSB ports are physically disabledUSB storage devices are disabled through the registry settingsWe use software solutions to control user access to USB devicesOther.

USB ports are pretty easy to repair. USB ports are a bit better than before, but those too can be confusing when not in good sight, because an upside down usb cable end is still very close to the right size, but will not fit on until inverted. Up to 10 of these USB test plugs can be simultaneously connected to a PC providing that free USB ports are available on the PC or on a down stream hub and sufficient power is available.
